Space Shuttle Atlantis Launch Postponed

In response to failed sensors, today’s launch of the Space Shuttle Atlantis was scrubbed at 9:56 a.m. EST on the recommendation of Launch Director Doug Lyons. A second launch attempt is tentatively scheduled for 4:09 PM EST on Friday, December 7, 2007.

NASA Accepting Applications for Summer 2008 Internship Opportunites

NASA is currently accepting applications from undergraduate and graduate level students for 2008 Summer Internship Opportunities available through Ames Research Center, Goddard Space Flight Center, Glenn Research Center, and Marshall Space Flight Center. These internships have a combined application form available through the following link:

The deadline for applications is January 15, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. EST.  Funding may be available through your state’s Space Grant Office or from the awarding NASA center.  You will find the contact information for your local Space Grant on the following website: http://calspace.ucsd.edu/spacegrant/  

This combined application includes the following internship opportunities:
• Academy: NASA Academy
• APL: Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory Student Internship Program
• IVV: Independent Verification and Validation Internship
• Robotics: NASA Robotics Academy
• SAWDRIP: Summer Aerospace Workforce Development Research Internship Program
• SIECA: Summer Institute in Engineering and Computer Applications
• SIP: Student Internship Program

These internships are available to US Citizens only (citizens of Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Northern Marianas are considered U.S. citizens).

The NASA Academy will also consider Permanent U.S. Residents (i.e. greencard holders) and has partnered with the European Space Agency (ESA) and will consider applicants from the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
