Summer 2010 Minority Student Education Forum MUREP Small Projects – Deadline April 12, 2010

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration has released a NASA Announcement for a MUREP (Minority University Research and Education Programs) Small Projects opportunity. The NASA Administrator has called for NASA to “Inspire a nation to the importance and impact of education to our space program.” This Minority Student Education Forum is an opportunity for students from the fifth-grade through high school to participate in a unique NASA learning experience. Minority Serving Institutions are invited to submit proposals to bring students to NASA’s Kennedy Space Center for an education forum, hands-on activities and a tour of the center.

Proposals will be accepted from Minority Institutions, or MI, of Higher Education that offer degrees in STEM disciplines. Eligible institutions include the Department of Education designated Historically Black College or Universities, or HBCU; Hispanic Serving Institutions, or HSI; and Tribal Colleges or Universities, or TCU. Please refer to http://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ocr/edlite-minorityinst.html for a list of minority institutions.

The Minority Institutions are responsible for selecting the visiting students. Forum activities will include NASA content-based educational activities, exposure to the inherent excitement of the space program, minority role models and the anticipation of the STS-134 shuttle launch. The forum events are designed for high school, middle and elementary school students. The dates for the education forum are July 27, 2010, through July 29, 2010. The schedule is subject to change due to operational constraints. Participants will be exposed to real-world experiences and examples that will encourage students to become the scientists and engineers of the future, thereby strengthening the nation’s future STEM workforce.

Full proposals are due April 12, 2010.

Proposals must be submitted electronically. Proposers may use NASA’s proposal data system, NASA Solicitation and Proposal Integrated Review and Evaluation System, or NSPIRES, (http://nspires.nasaprs.com) to submit their proposals.
