2011 Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge includes competitions for Elementary, Middle, and high school teams. The new high school component challenges high school students from across the country to GO GREEN. Teams will research, plan, and carry out out a course of action that will make a positive energy-related change in your world. Below are suggested amounts of time for each step in the Challenge.
Step 1: Choose It! -Two weeks
Step 2: Research It! – Two to three weeks
Step 3: Plan It! -Three weeks
Step 4: Do It! – Six to eight weeks, depending on project
Step 5: Analyze It! – Three to four weeks, depending on project
Step 6: Share It! -Two to three weeks, depending on project
Overall the project should take between 18 and 23 weeks to complete. Applications are being accepted from August 17, 2010 to March 15, 2011. The 51 State Finalists will be announced on or about April 15, 2011, and the National Finalists will be announced on or about May 6, 2011.
In keeping with the Challenge’s overall mission to build a more sustainable world, high school participants (grades 9-12) are encouraged to form teams of up to four students, research an energy related issue using scientific investigation, and create a replicable solution using web-based curriculum tools powered by Discovery Education.
