ROSES-11 Amendment 28: Appendix D.7 – The Kepler Guest Observer Program revised text and new due dates

Amendment 28 provides the revised text and new due dates for Appendix D.7: The Kepler Guest Observer Program.

The Kepler Guest Observer (GO) Program solicits proposals for the acquisition and analysis of new scientific data from the Kepler mission, which is the tenth mission launched under NASA’s Discovery Program. During its three and a half year prime mission, Kepler will continuously monitor a ~100 square degree field-of-view (FOV) in the Cygnus region (a=19h 22m 40s, d=44° 30′ 00”), with the objective of photometrically detecting transits of Earth-size planets in the habitable zones (HZ) of stars in the solar neighborhood. The instrument’s high-precision photometry capability, with two available cadence modes (1 minute and 30 minute), provides a powerful tool for variability analyses of both Galactic and extragalactic sources.

The major change to the text is the elimination of the exclusive use period associated with Cycle 4 GO data. The new due date for notices of intent to propose is December 5, 2011, and the new due date for proposals is January 20, 2012.

On or about October 17, 2011, this Amendment to the NASA Research Announcement “Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences (ROSES) 2011” (NNH11ZDA001N) will be posted on the NASA research opportunity homepage at (select “Solicitations” then “Open Solicitations” then “NNH11ZDA001N”).
