NASA Intern to Speak on Meteorites at Eugene Science Factory – January 26-27

(from our friends at Science Factory in Eugene, Oregon)

Former NASA Intern to present “Meteorites: Shooting Stars and Rocks from Outer Space” in the Planetarium. Meteorites have helped shape the history of our planet for billions of years, and they continue to provide us with valuable information about our solar system. Find out how these rare objects are found, how they find they’re way to us, and why scientists go to incredible lengths to recover them. Robbie Carter will lead this discussion Saturday and Sunday January 26 & 27, at 2pm. The discussion is based on his experience researching meteorites while interning at NASA.

Robbie Carter is a UO physics student who spent last summer as a NASA intern. He began volunteering at the Science Factory Planetarium in November 2007.

The cinnamon basil seeds that were recently flown on board shuttle mission STS-118 are now in the process of being packaged at Park Seed Company in Greenwood, S.C. After they are packaged, the seeds will be sent to a mailing organization for delivery to educators registered for the Lunar Plant Growth NASA Engineering Design Challenge. We anticipate the delivery phase taking place very soon.

Registration is still open for NASA Design Challenge! For additional information and to sign up to receive the space-flown basil seeds, please visit:
